UK Music Charts/Week of May 21, 2006: “Stoned In Love” Still Charts But Is Slipping
Sunday, May 21st, 2006
Stoned In Love has slipped to #14 from #9 on the Top of the Pops chart. It is at #22 on the BBC’s dance chart, down from #20 last week.
On the Welsh singles chart, the song slipped to #10 from #4 this week.
Stoned In Love is also now at #2, down from #1, on the MTV (UK) Dance and Galaxy chart which comes out, like the TOTP chart, Sunday night. As the brief MTV news story says, “It had to happen eventually.” And they did run this photo of Sir Tom with the story, so that may be some compensation.
But, you can probably still click and add your vote to this viewer-vote-based list.

This is dreadful……..we all need to band together, and try to vote at least on the Galaxy site…where we can still vote. If we all (TJ fans) joined forces and voted at least 10 times a day, we might be able to get him back where he should be….ON TOP of this chart!!!!!!!

I agree that it’s dreadful. I am voting every day!!!

OK, we have to say this: First: everyone is entitled to an opinion and, in the case of how we feel about a song, or movie or book, no one opinion is right.
That said, we think any chart action for Tom is more than great. It’s…….super great!!! But we also wish his latest release was something…well….different. No one in the business is more daring than Tom Jones. He’ll always try something new and add his own personality to it. We enjoy the Stoned In Love video and hope that each of you who goes to see him in person will get to hear him do this song because he does it so well in his show. But, we also wish he’d reconsider the soul album with David Foster that he turned down because he’d done this music already. Just listen to some of his soul stuff; try to get copies of The Right Time. You’ll hear amazing music performed by a master who has so much more to contribute in this arena. So, yes, we’re happy that Tom doesn’t rest on his laurels and constantly reinvents himself. But we don’t think that means he has to abandon the the music that is so clearly his to dominate — the music he says inspired him. We’re actually kind of amazed that Stoned had the amount of play it got and we know that is all due to Tom Jones. He can do anything. Just wish it were something worthy of his talent.

If Tom does an old-fashioned soul album, I’d rather he did it with the Jools Holland Orchestra (or someone with that kind of edge) than David Foster. DF sounds very “easy listening” from the bits I’ve heard. Don’t know him very well though.
