Rare & Fun: Tom’s Midnight “Reload” Release Party
Monday, November 13th, 2006
It’s September, 1999 and Gut Records is about to release Reload. To celebrate the occasion they host a midnight release party at the Virgin Megastore in Piccadilly.
The event showcased Tom Jones at this best — relaxed and casual — and we’ve been fortunate to get a recording of some of the night. The crowd noise just adds to the immediacy of the event. Hope you enjoy it and thanks to the fan who let us post it.

Ain’t That A Lot of Love
Finally, don’t know how long it will remain posted, but here’s a clip from the Reload electronic press kit (EPK) that’s posted now on YouTube.com. The link was sent by Dre, so our thanks go out to him.

These clips are brilliant! Poor old Kevin operating the tapes in the record store session! I think we hear Tom at one stage uttering “Grind me up” which Clef would later include at the beginning of Tom Jones International. Must be one of Tom’s phavourite frases when addressing sound engineers!
Cheerz, Dre for the video footage. More stuff I’ve never seen before. I read once that Chris Evans’ ‘Ginger Productions’ shot an entire documentary on the making of Reload but I don’t think it ever came out which is a shame because the album was MASSIVE. Maybe those EPK clips were part of what was shot for the documentary? All top-knocker ‘fly-on-the-wall’ stuff anyway.

Great, great, great! I remember that day they held the midnight session at the Virgin Megastore. And Tom’s voice is top notch on this too!

Great stuff!! Thanks!! It is soooo fine hearing Tom in this casual setting. The EPK is the icing on the cake.
