Tom In AC: Back On the Road In Great Form

We heard from lots of fans about Tom’s return to touring in the US November 24 at the Superstar Theater at Resorts in Atlantic City. If you have photos or a review of these shows, please send them in.

To begin, here’s Audrey’s review and two of her photos:

THANKFUL INDEED!!!!!!!!!!

Audrey2audrey1Reading the Thanksgiving post on this site prior to experiencing yet another Tom Jones performance was a timely reminder of how fortunate we as TJ fans are. Not that we needed to be reminded, but as Sir Tom took the stage, I for one realized how true the thoughts written in that post are. Our guy did not need assistance getting on stage, or forget words, and his voice truly was better than ever!

The new song list did not disappoint. There are some real winners thrown in the mix, especially The Reason, and Cry For Home.

The highlight of the evening for me, were the three standards, Here’s That Rainy Day, Fly Me To The Moon, and That Old Black Magic.

Even though the concept of artists doing old standards has been done, you all know what I’m going to say……….It’s has rarely been done the way Tom can deliver these songs. Another nice thing about the standards is the way it gives the band an opportunity to show case their talent. They are in a word, magnificent. If I had a say in the matter, I would have preferred to bag the rest of the song list, and listen to Tom and the band do standards the balance of the evening. In my opinion, it was that good.

The Atlantic City audience on Friday was very well-behaved, with the exception of two very small annoyances hardly worth mentioning, so I won’t. An elderly couple made their way up front to photograph a memory of their evening. Mom posed with knickers, while Pop got the picture. When the knickers finally flew, they did not even make it to the stage, but it didn’t matter because they got their photo, and everyone thought they were cute.

Tom seemed to be in his usual good mood, smiling and pleasant, and referring to the stool brought out on stage as a “set change.”

He danced around the stool a couple of times joking that he does not see set changes often, so he was going to enjoy it. We feel your pain Big Guy, enough said. The new program is nice, using photos from different decades is a nice touch.

As this Thanksgiving weekend comes to an end, let me say that we are thankful also for Ellen and Ursula for the excellent work they do with this site. Your efforts are very much appreciated. Your site has become a source for Tom’s fans to network and sometimes even meet each other. Meeting other fans and sharing experiences (thanks again Brianne) enables us to enjoy to the fullest our interests and passion. I am anxious to hear how Saturday and Sunday shows went, so if you were there, please share.

Hi Everyone - I’ve posted my review under “IT’S MEAN - WE LIKE GREY” - #21. Once again, after seeing Tom almost 91 times, I would rank Friday and Saturday night’s shows right up there - probably the best I’ve seen. Carol

Audrey, thank you for the review! I am anxiously awaiting December to see and hear Tom. I am really looking forward to hearing him sing the Reason. I have heard the song on YouTube and even though the quality leaves a lot to be desired it just makes me want to hear him sing it live. Thanks for the pictures too. You can add me to the group who likes the silver in his hair. :-)

Carol, thanks for your review too. You are lucky to have been able to see him so many times!

Seeing the security with Tom in that photo reminded me when I worked the shows in the 70’s and 80’s how much security it took for TJ to get from hotel room to lobby to limo to show, back to hotel then down to restaraunt then to the clubs. It was very interesting how this whole thing was organized and put in place. I have always been intrigued with this kind of behind the scenes stuff. Rica

Loved the show last night in AC. The changes are positive but there was no silver in the hair as far as I could see. Actually this time around we had rather poor seats despite arriving over an hour early and the SMEARING of the maitre’d so perhaps there was some grey. Anyway I digress. The show was everything you could ask for and more! The addition of the old standard were well recieved and some of Tom’s slightly younger fans to the right of the stage seemed to be in some sort of Tom frenzy, no doubt spurred on by the hot body he teasingly displayed on occasion. Ladies, I truly want to see Tom in Vegas. I think the seating selection at the MGM gives you a better/fairer chance of getting the seating you pay for. At any rate it was worth it to be in the same room with so many fans who love Tom and I will remember this evening as one of his BEST!!!!

We like that Tom has Sharpee at the ready, available to fans for a quick photo or autograph.

I saw Tom all 3 nights at Resorts AC and he was amazing and in rare form! He really connected with his fans in so many ways ! After the shows many fans got the opportunity to get photos with Tom. My grandmother and I were among the lucky ones! Toms voice is simply amazing, I know a few of his fans were having rough times at home, and after seeing Tom they acted like totally new people! When Tom sang the song “The Reason” my heart melted. He really puts his heart and soul into all that he sings. The band was also amazing as usual. I have met so many wonderful people through going to see Tom { Hi Audrey! :) } I hope everyone enjoyed the show, I certainly did!!!!

Fly Me To the Moon - I can’t wait!! 16 Days until I’m floating on a cloud in TJ heaven… sigh

Thanks for the review Audrey and congrats to Brianne on the photo op.

Yes, a good Knight never leaves home without his Sharpie unsheathed and ready ; ))

My sister and I are going to be in Vegas for Tom’s opening night on Jan. 18. We’d love to meet some fans while we’re there. Who wants to meet prior to the show? Can’t wait. We also have tickets for the next three nights as well. It’s a chance for us to get our TJ fix for 2007.

If anyone wants to meet Dianne, write us (email link on any page) and we’ll be happy to forward the email to her. If everyone posts these plans, the list gets overburdened with personal stuff.

In fact, if you want to meet at any venue, we’ll be happy to post the first email containing the date and venue. After that, please just drop us a note and we’ll send it to the person who is organizing the meet.

    Thanks.

Hello all, I will be in Las Vegas in January and will be attending one of Sir Tom’s shows and as always I am looking forward to this. Now for a question, I have read in prior posts that some changes have been made in the song list can anyone tell me if, You Can Leave Your Hat On, Sexbomb and If I Only Knew are still included in the show. Thank you in advance.

  12. Moderator Says:

Dave: Yes they are all still in the snow. If you go to the search box above on the right, and put in “October set list,” you’ll find it. Or, you can just go here and scroll down to see it. It has, by the way, changed a bit, but that’s essentially it.

  13. Dave Says:

Thankyou so much for the information regarding Sir Tom’s new set list. Having been a Tom Jones fan for many many years I truly appreciate this fantastic web site. Once again thank you.
