MGM Thursday, January 25: Great Show, One Funny Incident

No surprise: the show is still very good, Tom looks and sounds great. The band and singers are in fine form as always. Tony, we’re sorry to report, has to sit on a stool throughout the show as he has an injured leg, but is recovering.

The audience was terrific, full of enthusiasm and loving every moment. Only one cloth for Sir Tom to mop his fevered brow was tossed onstage and nothing else. Maybe now reporters and critics will stop classifying the audience as underwear-tossing ladies of a certain age. Hope so because if this audience is typical (and we think it is) he attracts a mixed crowd of men and women, young and old. Very few performers can attract that breadth of viewer. This is one special man.

One very funny thing:

Three women were at table 5, smack in the center next to the stage. They apparently noticed a bracelet peeking out of Sir Tom’s right shirt cuff. It looked to match the new ring on his left hand and went well with the diamond-encrusted Rolex, also on the left.

So, during a very brief lull, they asked, “Tom, can we see your bracelet?”

When he finally understood what they were asking, he said, “You want to see my bracelet? Is that all you want to see?”

Answered in the affirmative, he laughed, showed them the bracelet and said to the audience, “You know you’re getting old when all they want to see is the jewelry.”

Hmmmm.

Sounds like a fun show! as always wish I could see Tom in LV. However, the reviews help me to get a glimpse of the evening through your eyes. Unfortunately no audio. He is witty. thanks.

I can’t wait until the 30th when I have tickets! Hope TJ is recoverd and able to move a bit by then. I’m bringing a friend who is a TJ Virgin and I promised her lots of gyrations!

  4. SusannePDX Says:

Ignore my comment…I see it was Tony that is recovering and not TJ. Sorry, I had a senior moment.

  5. Chris Says:

I am leaving today for Vegas and the TJ concert tomorrow night. I can’t wait to see/ hear the new song set! I am taking my 24 yr-old daughter and she’s so excited as her Mom has been telling her about TOM for so long! She, too, is (as Susanne puts it) a TJ virgin. I hope she loves him as much as I do!

  6. Jared Says:

I love seeing TJ in concert. I always see him at the Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, CT. Tom even cracks a few jokes there, it’s great to see that he still has a great sense of humor.

  8. Moderator Says:

We think it’s probably platinum but, yes, it is silver in color. Bracelet is beautiful, dazzling. But what else would you expect?

Can’t wait to see the new Jewels in Atlantic City!!!!

Saw Tom for a second time this week (Monday night). What a great show. The crowd was really ROCKIN’!! He’s always good but when the crowd is really into it, he just feeds off that and the show just gets better. It appears everyone is really ready for when he sings “Git me some” (my favorite) as he can’t even sing a line without the crowd going absolutely wild! It was like that after every line he sang. He really likes that song and so do we! It’s a “keeper” for sure! The lady from Atlanta, GA was there again (I believe her name is Helen) and he wiped his brow with a small thong she had thrown for him. He commented that it looked more like an “eye patch”. :) She asked him if he was still a “one night love maker” and of course that only made the crowd go hysterical. He repeated the question and she said she had a night available. :) Then she commented on him having a “hard leg” and you can only imagine the crowd’s response! She wanted a kiss but he said he couldn’t go around kissing everyone anymore - had to be careful and take care of his throat, etc. Another woman gave him a large, red Valentine’s monkey. Another, very popular, song with the audience is “I like the way…”, and he even stopped singing during the “I like the way you move” part so he could listen to the audience who was waiting/ready for that song and singing in full volume. That song is another “keeper”. I tried to look for his bracelet but from my seat (D9 - 30′ from stage) I only saw his watch. For all of you who are going on Tuesday/Wednesday nights, enjoy the show!

Lucky you Lori! Nice review! One day I’ll get to see the show in LV. They sound so great and so much interaction with the audience. I’m saving and planning. Thanks for the info on a fun night.

  12. Ann Says:

A great review Lori! Thank you. Please fill us newer TJ fans in on where a “one night love maker” came from?! Sounds like Tom was really having fun with the crowd.

  13. Sandy S. Says:

Chris, Took my grown daughter to see him for the first time & she was amazed. When he came to her town, she had to go see him again. Know your daughter will fall in love with him as everyone does. The jewelry is just the icing on the cake!!!

  14. Laura Says:

I have to say that I did not see the bracelet, but the ring and watch are gorgeous, as is Sir Tom. I saw the show Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights and they were all great, but Sunday night was a stand out. TJ was in a great mood and moved with such vigor that it made me re-think my own workout ethic. Comedian George Wallace was in the audience and it was fun to see him enjoying himself so much. He said he was with professional singers who were “taking notes.” All I can say is that they were watching The Master at work. During “It’s Not Unusual”, Brian’s guitar was not working and Tom recreated the riff with his voice. It was hilarious, but it also showed what a true professional does when things go wrong. The man is just amazing.

  15. Deb Says:

Thanks to all for the new reviews. And, kudos to all who just keep introducing younger fans to the man’s talents! Vegas in December now seems so very long ago but everyone’s comments keep the memories live and well! Keep ‘em coming!

  16. Paula Says:

Thank you to everyone for all the great reviews and comments about the shows; they are especially welcome if, like me, there is little chance of getting to see him for a while. I just love reading about all the funny incidents and special moments. Fantastic; more please!!!!

  17. Fay Says:

Oooh! All this TJ talk makes me want to Git Me Some! Thanks for all the details, it’s taking the edge off the supercold temperatures we’re having here in Canada.

    TOM JONES ROCKS MY WORLD!!!!

  18. Chris Says:

Sandy, my daughter, loved Tom and was up dancing with the rest of us on Git me Some and I like the Way . Her comment after the concert was, ” I completely understand why you like him so much!” Bless her heart, she’s now a TJ fan!
