Inside Scoop: First Night In Chile Brought Chilly Numbers
Wednesday, February 21st, 2007Note: This is not the Viña Festival show for which the poster is below. That is tomorrow, Thursday night, February 22.
I’d like to report that tonight’s show was a complete success, but that would be not be entirely true.
Obviously the build-up for Tom’s show was more than adequate, judging from the amount of media and press which has embraced and recorded his every move since his arrival here in Concepción.
The cold hard facts may have to do with economics verses affordability. Many who wanted to see the show may not have been able to afford the price of admission. The result was a stadium, made to hold tens of thousands, seating far less.
The show was in no way a disappointment for the several thousand who were able to attended. They were excited and delighted to see their man.
As usual Tom obliged in the only why he knows how. He performed completely, and with a passion to match that of his appreciative and vocal audience.
This was an outdoor event. The evening weather very comfortable but rather cool. Probably perfect weather for Mr. Jones who was cool, calm, dry and collected.
Tom’s hits were very well received. In fact, the audience loved everything he sang. The massive stage kept his fans at a respectable distance, making it more difficult for the audience to completely connect with Mr. Jones. Perhaps a smaller venue would have been advantageous on this occasion.
It is quite obvious that Tom Jones remains a major star in the eyes and memories of the people of Concepción.
Santiago is the next and final stop of this South American tour.
This writer trusts that Mr. Jones will be embraced with the same respect and enthusiasm that has been shown him here in Concepción.
Economics aside, Tom’s show was outstanding!
