Fan Fare, What's New, Pussycat?
Here’s where you’ll find TJ photos and stories that don’t fit into any other categories. It is, as its name says, just for fans — and, hopefully, for fun.
Sir Tom In Chile
Friday, February 23rd, 2007
Here, from Chile, is excellent video of Tom at Festival Viña del Mar. This is from a TV broadcast. Parte 1 lasts almost 17 minutes. Parte 2, slightly over 15. If you’re in a hurry and don’t have a half-hour to watch, you can see show clips. Scroll down in the menu on the right. Of all the video from South America, our favorite is Tom singing The Reason. All of these give you a good idea of the show he’s doing now. And we love the shots of the band and the singers. Check at 4:43 of Parte 2 for I Like The Way, the new addition to the show that is very popular with audiences.
Here, too, are photos from his concerts in Chile. They include a magazine cover and story, concert shots, Tom getting an award and some photos carried on TV and in the newspaper.
We have to thank Dre for sending them. As he says, “Tom Jones: Apostle of Life After 65.”
He’s so right.

Youtube.com has a bunch of clips of the concert where you can see pretty much the entire show. The quality of all the clips is pretty good and it gave me a chance to hear a couple of the new songs he’s doing this year that I haven’t seen in person yet. I do wonder, though if Tom had a cold during the concert as it seems he was holding back the vocals and generally stiff or nervous looking. It seems crazy to think of him being stiff, but I’m wondering if all the travelling caught up in this unfortunate spot and affected the voice. I’m usually not negative with any performance but I’m wondering if anyone felt he wasn’t attacking the songs in his usual way??

Vince: We checked all the youtube video of the concert and posted what we thought the best. As for your concern, we’ve seen this show several times (regretfullyy not in Latin America) and believe a lot of to do with the material in this setlist.
We found it really interesting that this material (as you can tell from the end of Part 2) was prepared especially for youtube.

Does anybody know what kind of awards were presented? Some kind of people award, I believe, but he mentions another one and even gets a third if, i’m not mistaken.

The photos are awsome and I so enjoyed them. I think Tom looked a trifle strained while singing parts of THE REASON. Perhaps he was just exhausted, different climate or just perhaps the grueling schedule he keeps. Remember this is not a 20 yr old guy. Tom as always is amazing and gives !00% at all his concerts. Thank you for sharing the YOU TUBE info.Vive EL TIGRE!

I loved the song The Reason!! It doesn’t get much better than that. Also, Resurrection Shuffle was really fun and alive.
Waiting on pins and needles for him to come to Pachanga Resort and Casino in Clifornia so we can join the party. WE LOVE YOU TOM!!!!!

I checked all the youtube clips too, and did notice that Tom didn’t do his usual “attack” in all parts of the Viña Del Mar show. There’s one clip from Buenos Aires where Tom sings I’ll Never Fall In Love Again and you can tell that his voice is in much stronger shape right there!
I know that some might think Tom is having a heart attack sometimes when he is hitting the higher notes but from how I see it, that’s what is SOUL, giving a 100 percent and that’s how Tom’s always looked when he gives his all and that’s what I respect about him the most!
On the Viña Del Mar performance I noticed that Tom had to do a really hard job on staying on the higher octave on If I Only Knew and I’m only being straight here, it really caught my attention. Tom has said himself that the voice differs sometimes and that he does a lot of job on keeping it fit on his tours. I guess the voice weren’t a 100 percent at this performance but it wasn’t Tom’s darkest day eighter, as there were a lot of great vocals done there too. And about Tom’s stage presence, he sure still moves like a 20-year old and has that one of a kind style onstage that no one will ever replace after him.
Anyway, my weekend was saved by these youtube clips from Viña Del Mar, a pure joy watching them! And how big was the crowd there!?! I would say over 10 000

Tom Jones is (((THE REASON)))!!!
February 25th, 2007 at 1:19 pm
I watched Parte 1 and 2. What a huge crowd! Good to see that at least some of this current stuff is being properly filmed and that it’s out there somewhere to watch again in years to come.
February 25th, 2007 at 1:37 pm
I really love the youtube videos.Does anyone know if you can record them to a DVD to watch on a DVD player? Thanks, Rica
February 25th, 2007 at 2:45 pm
You can record them with orbit, search for orbit downloader on google. Than you can watch them with the help of a flv player, again, search on google…install both. I haven’t found out yet how to get them in an other format correctly for playing on a dvd player, if anyone knows…

Check out TubeSock, a shareware app that converts youtube videos and puts them into iTunes or on your computer. It also captures youtube audio if that’s all you want. For quite awhile TubeSock was available only for Macs but is now available for windows. It costs $15 — the best $15 we ever spent. Once they’re downloaded, they are in QuickTime format on your computer (this is for a Mac; haven’t used it on a PC yet). They play on the computer. We haven’t tried a DVD player.
If you have a video iPod, the videos go on it, too. We have — in addition to loads of TJ — everyone from Prince, Bruce, Aretha, Ruth Brown, Bette, U2 and lots more.

Hello everybody. I’m from Chile and I was in the show in Viña del Mar with my mom. Both of us were really in shock with his wonderfull voice. The man is a real great singer, he show to the chilean people that the years has not affected his personality and his moves. That night was really the best night that me and my mom could ever have.
“Chi yn orau ynot fyd syr Tom Jones!!!…Carwn Chi!” (We made two posters with this messages for Tom, to be shown on TV…)
God bless you Sir Jones.
—Greetings from Chile, Dominique and my mom, Thamara.

Mika: The higher octave at the beginning and middle of If I Only Knew is something that might have been shaky in the performance but those octaves ended okay because of a trick Tom’s been doing for years on that song- which is to have a pre-recorded version of the octave played backing him up so he can stop before he gets to the high note. It’s actually a good idea in order to preserve the voice since it really is a hard two notes to hit every single night. It’s really evident and clever when you see it in person and up close with the special lighting that gets used at those moments to make it less noticeable that he lip-syncs for a few seconds. By the way, there is some good coverage of his press conference before the show on their website that Ellen and Ursula included in their link.
February 25th, 2007 at 9:41 pm
Yes, Susanne PDX, you are right…Tom is THE REASON! And no, Linda, he wasn’t straining during the song…that’s how he always sings it and I love the way he sings it! I love the song. I loved the video. I just love Tom Jones!

Someone who was at the last show of this tour, last night in Santiago, emailed and told us there were 12,000 people there. We’re hoping Scoop will send a review from there or from home.
Meanwhile, it looks as if Tom’s Latin America tour was a tremendous success and we’re thrilled for him and for the fans who got to see him after 20 years.
¡Viva Sir Tom Jones!

Tom renews my passion for him everytime I hear him sing. I will have a bounce in my step for the rest of the week - Love it!!
Thanks for sharing these awesomecool videos!
February 26th, 2007 at 10:06 am
OK, Lori, I stand corrected. I love Tom and I love his passion and intensity. Believe it or not I missed the song the night I was at his concert in AC and didn’t get to see him do it live ( a quick bathroom run) So seeing it on YouTube was my first time. I was not aware that is how he always sings it. It is The Reason we love him so.
February 26th, 2007 at 1:19 pm
Vince, if you mean that long yeah-scream on If I Only Knew, I know Tom uses a pre-recorded voice on that one, and I agree that it’s wisely done because of the stresfull long note. But my point was that Tom really had to push it throughout the whole song to stay on the high key.
February 26th, 2007 at 6:05 pm
I just finished watching Tom sing The Reason. Can the man get any sexier?? I am, as always, in awe!!!! —Darla
February 26th, 2007 at 9:41 pm
The pictures are great. Tom looks great.
February 28th, 2007 at 7:46 am
I’m glad to hear Tom has a tape back up for that scream in If I Only Knew. That seems like a particularly stressful thing to do to one’s voice and I’m thrilled to know he’s not risking his fantastic voice for that scream. Agree with you, Darla, The Reason is GREAT!! He is beyond SEXY!! Guess I better not even try to describe that here…. !!! WOW!!! It’s getting hot in here…!!! At this point, I don’t care if he uses some tape back up for a several songs. His charisma, sex appeal — the whole package — make up for anything he needs to do to protect his voice!!! GOTTA LOVE THAT MAN!!!
February 28th, 2007 at 10:20 pm
Thanks for the tip on TubeSocks!!! I am going to check it out now.
It’s probably just me longing for the days of cropped sequin jackets (sooo loved those!) and tight pants (sooooo loved those even more!), but I really think he can still pull off tighter tailoring on his pants. They always seem to be a little too lose in the thighs. He is so thin and the casual looose tailoring makes him look even thinner. I think he could go an inch or so shorter in the shirt length and go for a shirt with a less boxy cut. He could probably even pull off tucking in the shirt and wearing a belt if he had the right stylist. He needs somebody from Queer Eye for the Straight Guy to make him over a TINY bit. He was always way ahead of his type fashion wise and now, not so much. Even a black tee and the right jeans might be better.
Again, he’s still be the sexiest man ever put on this planet even in a potato sack, but it’s been the same sequined shirts and loose pants for at least 3 years now.
February 28th, 2007 at 10:35 pm
Don’t know when you last saw Tom, but his stage clothing changed earlier this year. Nice shirts and great suits. Lookin’ good, he is.
March 1st, 2007 at 6:50 pm
Wonderful, wonderful footage!!! love linking us to such a treat!!!!!!!!!
March 1st, 2007 at 8:20 pm
Marisa, I too remember the days of those SKIN-TIGHT shirts with the short sequined jackets and SPRAYED on black pants! They were great at the time, Oh my, he could wear those pants!!! I’m sure he could pull of a “more tailored” look now, but the question is “should he?” He looks great now. His new wardrobe is jazzy, fits well and he looks SHARP in the suits. I suspect the untucked loose shirts are MUCH more comfortable to dance (and sweat) in. And as gorgeous as Tom still looks we really don’t want him to go back to the 80’s look — that’d be a bit of trying to disguise mutton as lamb. Poor taste. Tom’s too classy and too sexy to go there. We don’t want him to go back to those days where they made fun of him for those outfits. Personally, I think he may be reaching yet another pennacle in his career. Time will tell. I guess we all have our ideas of how we’d like to see Tom look. Regardless, he always looks and sounds GREAT!!!

Hello everybody…I’m from Chile and I can tell you a couple of things…First of all, Tom Jones did 3 concerts here in Chile and the tickets were sold weeks before the shows…the show its on Youtube.com its our great Festival de Viña del Mar, great artits have come, but no one like Sir Tom Jones, He is the greatest artist who has sang in this Festival. The crowd, 15,000 people, screamed his name, we loved his perfomance. It was his first time in Chile, and we were waiting for him for ages. The other thing, the awards like someone mentioned before, are very special because there awards people asked to give to someone who really deserves or we really love. There are 3 awards…but receiving the third is like WOW!!…the greatest thing. Just a couple of artist have received that award before…and finally, you can find the complete show (torrent file) recorded on dvd with dvd quality from a tv broadcast, on this web: http://www.shared.cl (you have to register first to download the torrent) and search TOM JONES. I already downloaded, it’s great. I hope you understand me because English is my second language…Great page by the way!….Hi from Chile!!
March 2nd, 2007 at 4:59 pm
Welcome, Maribel: Thanks for the review. The bit torrent site you suggested above has closed its registration page, but we’re sure it will be up again. Meanwhile, thanks so much for the great review. Second language or not, your feelings came through loud and clear. Thanks again!
March 2nd, 2007 at 9:11 pm

March 2nd, 2007 at 11:38 pm
You can’t get he file to use, or send it by email? I would really like to see it!
March 3rd, 2007 at 11:53 am
Hello everybody…
I’m a member of the site and I didn’t know registration is not allowed anymore…I have the torrent file if you want, but I not really sure if you could download the custom dvd, if you are not a member of the site…anyone who wants the torrent could post the emails here (if it’s allowed) and I’ll send you the torrent file…it would be great because you’ll see how excited was the chilean audience…ahh…other thing, there was a poll here in Chile and Sir Tom Jones was chosen the most popular artist of the last Festival de Viña del Mar…see ya!!
