Show & Venue Reviews, What's New, Pussycat?
Please share your Tom Jones shows with other fans. Setlist? Audience? Energy? What was it like being there? We’d love to hear from you.
And, while you’re telling us about the shows, please let us know what you think of the venues where Tom plays. Clubs, theaters, casinos — Tom Jones performs in all of them. Which venue do you think is the best? The worst?
So that other fans will know what’s in store when they buy their tickets, please tell us a little bit about the venues you know. If possible, try to use the format below so others can tell at a glance what you think. The best venue will merit ****. More than one review of a venue is welcome.
2 Fan Reviews From Pechanga
Monday, May 28th, 2007First, a brief, breathless review from Laura.
Hi, All:
I just got home from seeing Tom at Pechanga, and I must tell you…it was unreal.
The energy level was through the roof. The fans were from 19 to 90 and all of them were so excited to be there. The Man was smokin’. The Voice was a bit hoarse, but there is nothing better than watching him having fun.
He really is a legend and spending five minutes just chatting with him is precious. That glorious voice is a benchmark…always has been….always will be.
The photo is (from left) Paulette, Stefanie and Laura with Tom.
Now, here’s one from Nancy:
Saturday night May 26 was a great show at the Pechanga Resort north of San Diego. The show was sold out and the venue was great — about 1,200 seats in a nice little theater with great camera work for the screens. Tom was being filmed the entire show and didn’t boogie from side to side of the stage to flash that great smile and give those winks, as he usually does. I missed that, as it’s a real “connection.” He stayed pretty much in the front center by the camera person.
Tom looked great, much better than when I last saw him in January at MGM. He had lots of energy, looked rested, and sounded great. You can, though, really see his attitude change when the ladies in the audience stand up, start dancing, etc. He seemd to “turn on!” I still miss Tom Jones International, but Git me Some and especially Resurrection Shuffle (is that the name of that great number in the encore?) were too fabulous!!! One interesting note is that there were plenty of men in the audience-with female dates — who were whooping and hollering right along with the ladies!
If I were in charge I immediately would get rid of the “standards.” I don’t care if “others are doing them,” as Tom tells us. They don’t add a thing to the show in my opinion. If TJ wants to do some slow stuff, he has plenty of his own great songs that have his personal ’stamp’ on them… (With These Hands for example, and many more.) Just my thoughts.
MODERATOR’S NOTE: The show was not exactly being “filmed.” The cameras were for the two large screens set up in the theater.

OMG!!!! Laura and Paulette: nice to hear you had a great time. Nice picture girls. Nancy, thanks for the review. By the way Tom was doing the standard way before anyone else.

WOW you lucky girls! Great pictures and reviews. Could you tease the rest of us a bit and fill us in on some of that conversations?

Hi All,
Anna - yep we had a GREAT time! As far as a secret, there really isn’t any! We happened to run into him and asked if we could take a photo. So…that’s what we did, and how we got our fabulous photo! We let him know how terrific we thought the show was, and he did seem to really enjoy talking to us. He acknowledged us the next night in the audience as we were up dancing with everyone else in the place much more conducive to that than the MGM. We spotted him again after the show the next night, but, we did not want to disturb him again, however, we waited until he looked up and waved goodbye as we left the restaurant and he smiled and waved back! It was a very special time for us, and I was thrilled to have his arm around me for so long! He is very nice and those blue eyes are just amazing. Just luck, gals ± and we were the lucky ones this time!

In response to SusannePDX, the conversations are primarily about how we have loved TJ for a very long time and how much we love seeing him to this day. On this particular meeting, I asked him if I could look at his eyes very closely to see what color they are. They are blue……..and they are stunning.

We must note once again — after reading Laura’s and Paulette’s comments — how great Tom can be with his fans and restate our belief that his attitude is due to two reasons: First, he understands fan loyalty and how important it is to sustaining a career of 40+ years and, second, he’s such a fan himself. Just watch him sing a Jerry Leeeee Lewis or Solomon Burke or Howlin Wolf song. The joy he gets from singing their music is as palpable as the joy his fans get from hearing it. Thanks, Laura.
And, Nancy, we kind of agree about the “standards.”
Note to Sir Tom: For sure, sing Here’s That Rainy Day, but then do something in the vein of What Am I Living For? (OK, Tom, you’re probably tired of that, but it is beautiful.) or Baptism By Fire or — best of all — The Boy From Nowhere. Judging from your performance of The Boy From Nowhere last year in Las Vegas, even fans here, where it wasn’t released, love it and you hit it out of the ballpark. It’s amazing.

You all look fab! I’d love to gaze into those baby blues up close. My goal is to just touch “the man” once before I die.

Laura, I noticed in the picture that Tom’s fingers were in your hair. What was that like, and please don’t leave out any of the details. SusannePDX says that she just wants to touch “the man” before she dies. I want to hear him say my name. I think I would die. I would definitely melt into a puddle! I love, love, love this website!

Darla,
I have to tell you, that quite frankly, when that time comes and you are lucky enough to have a photo taken with him, you are so pre-occupied with not sounding like a drooling idiot, that those moments are surreal and largely forgotten. The best part of it is just experiencing what a nice man he is.

The ladies are smoking hot… Tom is wonderful. Wish I was there.
