Tom & Joss Stone To Duet At Concert For Diana. Makes Good Music & Good Sense
Wednesday, June 27th, 2007News on Thursday says Tom will also team up with Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry at the concert.
According to VH1 UK, Tom will duet with Joss Stone on Ain’t That A Lot of Love (which he did with Simply Red on Reload) at Sunday’s Concert for Diana.
The full concert will be broadcast in North America on VH1 live, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. EDT Sunday, July 1. NBC will broadcast a one-hour special that night at 8, 7 Central.
The pairing makes sense as Tom and Joss share music producer Steve Greenberg — she for her first big hit and he for his forthcoming CD.
In his widely reported comments on his interview with Princes William and Harry, Matt Lauer said of the talent line-up for Sunday’s event, “I think if you look at Kanye West and Fergie — those are probably on the boys’ side, but if you look at Duran Duran, Elton John and Tom Jones, those are clearly Diana’s picks.” He might be right, but he “clearly” hasn’t seen the audience at one of Tom’s shows lately…..not all middle aged and older women….But, no matter, we’re looking forward to the concert.
And, hopefully, the teaming with Stone will bring Tom to her audience, possibly a new one for Tom.
MODERATORS’ NOTE: The announcement of the duet came first on MTV UK and illustrated yet again how nasty the British press are about their own Tom Jones. Maybe that’s why; maybe because he’s a Brit they feel entitled to say rude things (often in a lame attempt to be amusing). But the fact remains that Tom Jones gets more respect as an artist in interviews and stories outside the UK and, yet, there is little effort to promote him outside the UK. It’s infuriating and such a waste of opportunity.

The MTV UK article is so goofy. They don’t realize that by saying that they would not be surprised if TJ makes a pass at a women three times younger than he…that they are admitting the thought that he still can…………!!!!

Tom’s a gentleman…when it comes to duets. He holds back his powerful voice so as to not drown out the other singer. Its much better when he goes solo.

I think that Joss and Tom singing together will be great. She has a sultry voice that I think will complement Tom’s. I understand what SusannePDX is saying but in this case I don’t think Joss’s voice will interfere with appreciating Tom’s.

I bought two Amy Winehouse CDs recently and thought “WoW! She’d be great in a duet with Tom!”

Joss Stone is the new Janis, if you take a look at youtube and you will know what i mean. I think Joss is a natural and she’s a perfect match for tom. I’m looking forward to this duet.

Hi Fay.
I agree that Amy Winehouse is a force unto herself. She seems to be either resurrecting or starting a whole new style of music for people to enjoy! She has a raw quality to her voice and it would be interesting to hear the two of them sing together. She also is very unique in her appearance!

Some times I dispair of our newspapers. They never seem to mention Tom’s voice. Just make stupid remarks !!!!!!!

And that is our point exactly, Pat. He generally doesn’t get that kind of treatment here.

Just watched Tom’s time on the concert for Diana. The intro he received was about the best most respectful, (longest too I will add) that I’ve ever heard. It takes a long time to remind everyone of this mans acccomplishments, and importance to the music industry. I especially liked the line about all the other stars backstage having to reach for sunglasses in his presence. I must admit, when I listened to the Arctie Monkeys on youtube do Bet You Look Good on the Dance Floor, I just didn’t get it, and could not see it as a song for Tom. But, as always Tom has a way of making us all get it. I thought it was a classic example of what is man is and always will be– IN YOUR FACE — rock and roll. You go Tom!!!!!!!!! Loved it. Hope it is done in future shows. Joss Stone was a brilliant choice to duet with Tom. She has got quite a set of pipes herself. I had certainly heard of her before, but never paid that much attention, but I will in the future. I hope the same is true for her fans now that they have become reremineded of the power of “The Voice” Always wonderful to see Tom on international TV.
