Perfect Music For A Lazy Summer Day
Friday, July 13th, 2007
Here’s Tom with The Stereophonics — Kelly Jones on lead vocals — singing the Gershwin classic, Summertime.
This video was recorded on March 7, 2000 for Dutch TV. The producers were not impressed by The Stereophonics and they were glad that “Mr.Professional,” Tom Jones (that’s what they called him) was there with “three great backup singers” — The Stereophonics. This photo was taken during the set.
We wouldn’t call The Stereophonics a “backup band” but, whatever, it’s great music for this time of year and quite a departure from Mama Told Me Not To Come.
Enjoy!
Thanks so much to Johan for the info and the photo!

Thanks for this. You are right. It is a really nice change from Mama Told Me. Sometimes I forget how well Tom sings songs like these!

Thanks, I enjoyed that. Tom can sing this sort of stuff like falling off a log. Not only does he sound comfortable doing it but it sounds amazing. Enjoyed the ‘phonics on this too.
Speaking of Reload promotions, this reminds me of that brilliant audio recording that was posted here quite a few months back of the in-store performance for the Reload launch. That was another nice peek at a bit of promotion most of us would have missed. I’ll have to have another listen if it’s still there.
‘Byeeeeeeee!

This is a very nice version of Summertime…reminds me of when I lived in Virginia and we used to sit outside drinking cold beers or mint juleps when it was so hot that you could see the heat waves literally floating in front of your face. It doesn’t get more sultry.
However…..in my world….no one sings Summertime better than Billy Stewart. He was remarkable.
