Remembering Elvis On His Birthday

Difficult to believe, isn’t it, that today would have been Elvis’ 73rd birthday?elvis 9-74

So many of Tom’s fans today began as Elvis fans, an admiration that has outlived the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll. Of course Tom, too, was — and probably still is — a major Presley fan. That Elvis returned the admiration can be seen from the photo at left, taken as he watched Tom at Caesars Palace in September 1974.

Those of us fortunate enough to have seen Elvis in person (and we were, indeed, fortunate) and, even, those who have only been able to see him on TV, in movies or hear his recordings, are lucky to have had his music as part of the soundtrack of our lives. He undeniably changed the face of music and we are all richer for that. It is surely worth taking a moment to remember.

Elvis is the king of rock and roll no doubt. To me he and Tom are the best entertainers of the last 40 years.

That is a great post! Hard to believe he would have been 73! Some of my favorite Tom interviews are when he talks about his time with Elvis… I can only imagine some of the jam sessions that took place… I am always hoping RCA has some secretly stored away and will one day surprise us with some! Great pics with the post!

This is a nice tribute! Tom was closest to Elvis then any other singer/entertainer. There will never be another like him.

Thank you to Ellen and Ursula for remembering Elvis on his birthday. Some of us, myself included, still have a heavy heart when Jan.8, and Aug. 16 rolls around. I for one am thankful that we have Tom Jones to lighten our heart at times like these by reminding us what true raw talent really is.

I had a crush on Elvis before I knew what a crush was. I didn’t know Tom and Elvis were friends until I became a TJ fan and seeing them together on your posted photos, the one from Elvis watching TOM in Caesars Palace leaves me speechless, only makes me wish I could hear them performing together like they did as friends after their shows :)

Thank you Ellen and Ursula for this noteworthy mention. It is a rare occurence to see in print, two vocal powerhouses/legends, share great moments together. Isn’t it amazing that these two men popped out of the womb with voices like that! In those photos….what did they talk about???….I wish I could have been a fly on the wall. Just to comment as to why so many people miss Elvis…, he was certainly one of the most biologically gifted human beings in the looks department. Look at that face!!…and with the incomparable voice and just everything about him once he stepped on stage. There will never be another Elvis Presley.

The same is to be said of Tom…his unique qualities are priceless and I look forward to the day I will hear him sing A Boy From Nowhere in concert…He has the best pipes in the business, hands down.

I’m going to Graceland next month, can’t wait!!

I still regret this powerhouse is no longer with us. Just think, if he had lived longer, he and Tom might have collaborated on something, and it would have been a megahit as both these great singers were incomparable.
