Rumor or Reality?, What's New, Pussycat?
Rumors about Sir Tom pass from ear to ear to chat room to discussion list to forum. Of course, we hear them, too, and are frequently asked by site visitors about the truth of a given story they see or hear. In an effort to separate fact from fiction, we’ll occasionally post a rumor — a possibly credible thing we hear and try to get at the real story. The only rule about the rumors we’ll post is that they must be about Tom’s professional life. Nothing personal. We leave that stuff to others. So, if you hear something and would like us to help check it out, send us an email. Of course no rumor is considered fact until it’s confirmed on Tom’s official site but, meanwhile, we’ll try to fill you in.
Rumor Or Reality? Tom Jones To Appear On “Canadian Idol”
Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008
It’s being reported by Canadian Idol that Tom Jones will appear on the show this season.
Since there are only eight contestants remaining, we’d guess that if this is true, he’ll be on in late August or September.
What we find odd is that Tom has expressed his strong views on this type of show — Pop Idol in the UK and American Idol here. And those views are not positive. But, on the bright side, maybe he’s doing it to promote his new CD. And look what it did for sales of Neil Diamond’s CD. (After his appearance on American Idol Diamond’s new CD debuted at #1 — a first for him.)
Remember, it’s not true unless confirmed on tomjones.com. But if it is true, we hope our Canadian friends can go the show.

This info is really interesting! Let’s see if they use Sir Tom as a mentor as other stars were used on Idol here in the States. I think it would be fascinating to witness the expertise he would share with the up-and-coming singers.

I loved how the announcement described Tom Jones:
“Tom Jones is easily one of the most notable performers to come out of the British Invasion. With a style all his own and leaving no genre untouched, Jones has rocked the charts since the early 1960s when his song, “It’s Not Unusual” became a No.1 hit in the UK and a Top 10 hit in the U.S. From pop to rock, show tunes to country and dance to techno, Jones has the ability to sing everything. From having his own television show, to performing on the Las Vegas Strip for 40 years, Jones has done it all. With a dominating stage presence, he continues to be an influential and vibrant force in the music industry to this day as he tours around the world. Some of his greatest hits include: “What’s New Pussycat” (1965), “She’s a Lady” (1971), “Kiss,” a collaboration with Prince (1988) and, most recently, “Stoned in Love” (2006). His newest album is scheduled for release later this year.”

About 2 weeks ago I saw the 2 brothers from the show on Yonge St filming part of the show. If I knew I would of asked them. I doubt it if they would of known anyways. LOL
You can get tickets at ticketmaster but the date for Tom Jones is not announced. It is on the Canadian Idol web site that he will be appearing but no date???? Rumor or truth?????
I don’t know but I’ll be there if he is and what a treat it will be. I wonder how the finalist will do? I mean coving a Tom Jones song is not easy.
Thanks for the news hopefully he will be on the show.

I believe Sir Tom might be a bit daunting to an inexperienced singer. He can be very gentle, but that voice!!!!!!! I can just see the looks on any young contestant’s face…just wondering how they could possibly imitate Tom’s voice or style….impossible!!!!! Let’s hope he’s a good teacher!! ;o))

I’m with Marian. Also, as Tom is a Gemini, he likes to change his mind. Perhaps he thinks the time is right.
