HOORAY! Tom Jones’ New CD To Be Released October 21 In US; November 17 In UK
Friday, July 25th, 2008This is great news (announced with little detail on tomjones.com), but we’re told the as-yet-untitled project is “still being recorded” for S-Curve Records. More tracks than will be included have been laid down, so we’re anxious to see what’s on it. All we know for sure is that I Bet You Look Good On the Dancefloor, the Arctic Monkeys’ number he did at the Concert for Diana last year is on it. He’s also recorded a new song written for him by Bono and The Edge (on which The Edge plays guitar) and a Springsteen tune that, we think, is from his acoustic Devils and Dust CD.
The further good news is that we should be seeing some new things in the set list, hopefully for his November shows at the MGM and for those we hear* will be in New York in November.
*No, we cannot say where or when he’s playing because we’re not sure and nothing’s been confirmed, so please don’t ask.

This is just brilliant news; I can’t wait. Let’s hope we get to see Tom doing lots of TV/radio promotion……on both sides of ‘the pond’!

Great news. I agree with Paula. His management should be booking him all over US TV!

Please tell Sir Tom Jones about LA radio station FM 100.3, The Sound (www.thesound.la.com). Maybe Tom’s publicist can get them to play Tom’s song,Bet You Look Good On the Dancefloor until the new CD comes out. This would be cool. Just a suggestion. Hope it comes true.

David: We have no sway with Tom’s publicist/management. You should email them directly. The contact info is on their website. Of course, the problem is that the only available recording of that song at the moment is the one from the Concert for Diana, so there may be no availability. But, when the CD is released, fans can certainly contact their favorite radio stations and request the first single.

Hope it comes true. Don’t forget K-Earth 101.1, FM-99.9 KOLA. We love Sir Tom Jones.

WOOEEE!! I,m one “HAPPY CAMPER” Great news… Thank you TJI!

I’m looking forward to new songs from the CD in his Oct/Nov gig at the MGM!

Yes, he needs max exposure in the U. S. When Sex Bomb came out, I don’t think alot of us had even heard it and it was already a hit. I just don’t understand that. He is almost never on American TV and that’s crazy. A lot of his music has never even been released in this country.

This is wonderful news, but if the CD is due out in the UK on 17th November I am a little surprised that he will be in Vegas 2 weeks before the cd is due to be released as I would have thought he would be here promoting it, There would only be days to spare between the end of the Vegas engagement and the cd being released. Not really enough time.It will be interesting to see what happens.
July 26th, 2008 at 2:37 pm
Pat: We don’t want to start any jingoistic arguments, but this time he really needs to focus on the US. His stuff sells well in the UK but this is the first — first! — thing he’s releasing here since his Reloaded: Greatest Hits CD in 2003. He needs all the exposure he can get in this country so that, maybe, everyone will understand the significance of his career the way his fans do. We hope he does get to the UK to promote it but, in truth, even the most diehard UK fans should admit that, this time, his time would be best spent in North America.
July 26th, 2008 at 3:12 pm
I understand that Tom needs to promote the CD in the US and I really hope that it does well there, but I can’t believe that Tom won’t be promoting the CD in the UK,this has nothing to do with anything jingoistic, we want him to have a hit CD in both countries. I’m sure his management would never allow him to pass the opportunity to have a hit CD in the UK. If the CD is released in the USA in October, he has plenty of time before that date to promote it there, but all I am saying is his Vegas dates will be after the CD is released there, and he needs time to promote the CD in the UK. When Reload was released in the UK he was here for a few weeks before release date and cancelled shows in the US to be here.I disagree that he should only be promoting the new CD in the US only, he needs time to promote the CD in the USA UK and Europe. What would fans in the UK think if it wasn’t promoted here?
July 26th, 2008 at 3:25 pm
Pat: No one is arguing with you. And there’s plenty of time between his Las Vegas closing in November and some dates we hear he has in the east in December for him to go to the UK. But you miss our point. It is purely professional….and no one says anyone is keeping him from promotion in the UK. However, canceling dates? That’s really a poor idea in this case, we believe, and we sincerely hope it doesn’t happen. You guys have no idea how much Tom needs lightening to strike in the US. When Reload came out — in the UK only — it accomplished its intended purposes: It was a huge seller, got Tom the recognition he deserved, snagged him a Brit award and started him on the road to knighthood. He deserves the same in the US, doesn’t he?
July 26th, 2008 at 3:38 pm
Just one point I would like to make CD’s in the UK are always promoted before release, they are released on a Monday, and they then make the chart the following Sunday, if they don’t go straight into the top 10/20 then they are not bothered with anymore, they do not climb up the charts like they do in the USA and as they did here many years ago. Cd’s are not promoted after the chart the following Sunday after release unless they go into the top 10/20,without promotion before they will not get there So for Tom to come after that date would be pointless,so what I was saying is there is so little time for him to promote the CD before the end of his Las Vegas engagement and the release date of 17th November. I really hope Tom doesn’t cancel dates, that is a poor idea, but all I was saying was he did that before the release of Reload and the Mr Jones CD. Ww are all fans whatever country we are in, and I am a frequent vistor to the USA, so I really do hope that the CD is a huge hit in all the countries it is released in.
July 26th, 2008 at 3:46 pm
Pat: As for Tom promoting his CD here in the US, I would surely hope that the powers-that-be will make a huge push. It’s time for a North America smash hit!
July 26th, 2008 at 4:36 pm
Hi again, All:We really hope this discussion ends. The people who make decisions about Tom’s career, hopefully, chose a US label to push Tom in the US and help lightening strike here as it did in the late 90s in the UK. But, unless you’re familiar with the business, some finer points may escape you (as they sometimes do us). UK fans seem hell-bent on keeping Tom to themselves. Yet, except for citizenship and that terrific accent, he is in every way an American. Certainly he’s been here (by choice, these days) long enough to claim to be an American by choice. So, let’s have his CD be a huge smash here and in the UK. And, please, let’s recognize the necessity of doing the former. And, by the way, CDs that aren’t immediate hits here, like in the UK, can sink faster than a boulder in the ocean. It’s not different.
July 27th, 2008 at 10:32 am
I wish Sir Tom astronomical success on both sides of the ocean! Isn’t it amazing how much we all love him and wish to claim him as our own?
July 27th, 2008 at 3:45 pm
CHEERS!!!!!!! To Sir Tom Jones’ new CD! Looking forwards to buying it in October. Never know, this could Tom’s next Grammy. That would be so nice.
July 28th, 2008 at 6:30 am
I am so excited about the release of the new CD. Let’s all get behind this CD and get Tom the hit he deserves. By the way, Pat, when Tom released the CD that he did with Jools Holland he cancelled a few Vegas dates to promote the CD in Great Britain
July 28th, 2008 at 9:14 am
Ed: We don’t recall any cancellations. And, since schedules for releases are set way in advance, a cancellation shouldn’t be necessary. Let’s hope that everything goes smoothly and no shows anywhere are cancelled. As we understand it, this CD is meant to do for Tom in the USA what Reload did for him in the UK. Surely he’ll promote it whenever and wherever he can and, surely, his live performance schedule will not suffer.

I’m so terribly excited about this! I love that song and can’t wait to see what else (especially what genre of music) he’s going to put on there!
