Tom Jones & Diane Sawyer: “Good Morning America” Interview Part II
Tuesday, September 30th, 2008
Here’s the second (and final) part of Diane Sawyer’s October 2003 interview with Tom Jones.
You’ll notice the interview was edited and what is apparently a question asked of Tom about that train station sign below in Wales by Charles Gibson (lately one of our favorite news anchors) is cut. The interview, too, is briefly sidetracked when Gibson reminds Diane Sawyer and the audience that weatherman Tony Perkins’ new son will be introduced that day.

That was so much fun to listen to. What nice memories!! Hope to see Tom many times in the next few months. You wouldn’t possibly have the performance?

Sandy: The four-part performance video begins Friday after our October 1 Question of the Month and a very amusing look at the audience in the studio.

Thanks for posting the interview. Tom’s such a happy guy.I can’t wait for tomorrow. The one thing that annoyed me though was that the host, (the man), interrupted the begiining of the interview by announcing that someone else was going to be introduced later. (a staff member’s baby?) Would they interrupt if they were introducing another icon? I thought it rude.

Darla: We respectfully disagree. It wasn’t rude, they were taking care of business and Tom got lots of attention and respect. The “staff member” whose new baby was introduced was, as you’ll see Thursday, an important part of the show — Tony Perkins, the weatherman — who does most of the stuff with the fans in the audience. It’s a light, entertaining, morning trifle that really shouldn’t be taken seriously. And we have no doubt that an interview with “another icon” might have been delayed a few seconds in the same situation. As regular viewers of that show, we can tell you that the birth of that baby had been discussed and eagerly anticipated for months and they were thrilled. They were also thrilled that Tom was there and that distracted them momentarily from the baby. So, we’d call it a draw, wouldn’t you?

I agree Moderator, Tony Perkins was part of the morning show, they had to talk about the baby. Besides, they were all thrilled to have Tom there, you could see that. He looked good, didn’t he?

I loved the interviews and Tom looked so handsome, can’t wait for more!!!!!!!!

OK, maybe rude was a strong word. I don’t watch the show. But having said that, it’s rare to see Tom being interviewed on American TV, and I would prefer no distractions. And yes Pam, he looked good!!

Darla, yeah, I know what you mean. They do sort of go from spot to spot in a hurry on those morning shows.
