Tom Jones On “Good Morning America,” October 30, 2003: The Concert Begins

Finally, the promo concert on GMA October 30, 2003 begins with Tom singing It’s Not Unusual.

We love the shots of the audience — especially the little kid — and of the band. (Check out Herman looking as he did when we first met him.) As always, everyone’s having a blast.

TJI.com October Question Of The Month: Favorite TV Appearance

We’re in the midst of showing video of Tom promoting Reload for four days on Good Morning America in October 2003. This has made us think of Tom’s other TV appearances.

Over the years he’s been on many TV shows (including his own) and in some made-for-TV movies and episodic shows. So, our question of the month for October is:

What one, single TV appearance of Tom’s is your favorite?

Is there one you taped that you’d watch after several years? Is there only one on the This Is Tom Jones DVDs to which you return time after time? Is there one you remember but haven’t seen in years? Please let us know the ONE.

Note: Just checked amazon.com and the CD is pre-selling for $13.99 and, best of all, it’s ranked #624 in sales ! This is 2+ months before it’s released. Terrific news, isn’t it?

Here’s the video from youtube:

What do you think?

Tom Jones International.com’s September Question of the Month: Most Memorable Concert?

There’s always lots of discussion about Tom Jones shows whenever fans gather in person or in cyberspace. They might recall a spontaneous song (the night he sang A Boy From Nowhere at the MGM, starting with just Brian on acoustic guitar and, by the end, being joined by the entire band and the singers) or the way Tom dealt with special audience members (anyone remember Matty and Mary from Westbury?) or, maybe, a show like many others, made special because of a special occasion in the life of the person recalling it.

So, this month, we’d like to know:

What was the one the single most memorable Tom Jones concert you’ve seen and what made it the most memorable?

(And, please, try to keep it to one concert, one answer. Thanks!)

We thank Audrey for suggesting this question and hope, if you have a question of the month or any Tom Jones question you’ll write us at tji.com.

August In Tom Jones Land: Rejoice And Flip The Page…And Please Answer Our Question of the Month — Venue?

It’s August and all of you who have the tji.com calendar can finally turn the page to what you tell us is your favorite month. And, we are very pleased (almost thrilled) to note that on the goac.com calendar, where they list Tom’s appearance at the Taj this weekend, they categorize his music as “Rhythm & Blues, Rock.” It’s about time people stopped putting Tom in the vanilla “pop” category, isn’t it? So, hooray for goac.com!

Now, for the question of the month:

Tom is about to play a big venue, 5,200+ seats. Many fans don’t care where they see him, as long as they see him. But most fans have favorite places. So, our question is:

What is your favorite venue in which to see Tom? And why?

Tom Jones According To Duffy: “He Means Sex.” Do You Agree With Her That A Meeting’s Inevitable? Duh!

In an interview with writer Jon Bream in the Minneapolis Star Tribune Welsh pop tart Duffy discusses Sir Tom. At the age of 24 has she already learned to stir the publicity pot? We think so. What do you think?

If you haven’t heard Duffy, you can check her out at her official site.

At the end of his story, Bream writes:

“She’d rather talk about someone a little closer to home — Welsh icon Sir Tom Jones.

“‘What does he mean to me? He means sex,” she said. “It was very liberating. That was a Welshman doing that in the days when people were quite well-behaved, for lack of a better word. He was kind of cool, you know, he was kind of a bit punk. The guy is still going. He’s still probably got the sex drive of a 21-year-old. He’s a great bloke.

“I”ve never, ever met him. But I’ve got a feeling that introduction is going to happen.’”

July Question of the Month: Even If It Wasn’t Tom Jones…?

Let’s all agree from the start that Tom Jones shows are (probably) the favorite of everyone who regularly visits this site. But, let’s just say, you’re asked to name your favorite concerts by performers other than Sir Tom. That’s our question for July:

Other than Tom Jones, whose are the best concerts you’ve seen in person?

We’ll get you started with our answers:

Ursula cites (aside from Tom and in no particular order): The Rolling Stones, Elvis, Frank Sinatra, Bette Midler, Billy Joel, Tony Bennett, BB King, James Brown, The Rascals, The Beatles, Prince, Garth Brooks, Chris Isaaks, Lou Rawls, Coco Taylor and Earl Turner.

Ellen’s favorites are (aside from Tom and in no particular order): Elvis, Sammy Davis, Jr., Ruth Brown, U2, Bruce Springsteen, Barbra Streisand, Suffocation (early Streisand and early Suffocation), Prince, Jimmy Buffett, Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, Waylon Jennings, Joan Baez, The Oak Ridge Boys, Fats Domino and early Jerry Lee Lewis.

June Question of the Month: A Birthday Wish For Sir Tom?

Tom’s birthday is, as all fans surely know, next Saturday, June 7. And we hope he’ll be toasted with lots of his favorite beverage, Dom Perignon.

Having said that, our June Question of the Month is: What is your birthday wish for Sir Tom?

And please check back on June 7 to see how we hope you will join us in paying tribute to Sir Tom by helping some children in need.

May Question of the Month: Three Songs For An Encore?

As most of us know, Tom’s three-song encore is now Resurrection Shuffle, I Like the Way and Kiss.

Our question is: If he were to change his encore, what should he change? All of the songs? Only one or two? Or do you think the encore should stay as is? And if he should change his music, what should he sing instead?

So, please give us three songs — only three songs! — and, if you wish, an explanation of your choices. Of course, you can leave in any of the songs Tom sings now. The songs you name do not have to be songs Tom has sung before.

April Question of the Month: Favorite Female Singer?

If you are a regular visitor to this site, it’s a good guess that Tom Jones is your favorite male singer; maybe your favorite of either gender. But this month we’d like to know:

Who is your favorite female singer?
